Revisiting unimaginable sacrifice:
The stories of Staten Island's 3 Medal of Honor recipients

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Did you know three Staten Islanders have earned the nation's highest military honor?

In our latest episode of "A Walk Through American History on Staten Island," Advance/SILive.com reporter Luke Peteley spotlights the extraordinary courage of Joseph F. Merrell Jr., Rev. Vincent Capodanno and Michael Ollis - three heroes whose actions in war defined selflessness and sacrifice.

From the battlefields of World War II to the chaos of Vietnam and the war in Afghanistan, each man faced overwhelming enemy fire - and chose to press forward, risking everything to save others. Their bravery came at the ultimate cost, but their legacy lives on here at home.

Watch the video as we remember these three Staten Islanders - as well as everyone else who gave everything in service of their country - this Memorial Day.
